Château de Grézan

Description

The Château de Grézan is a former Hospitaller commandery founded in the 12th century and transformed in the 19th century into a fancy fortress. Listed as a historical monument, this considerable complex surrounded by crenelated ramparts is located in Laurens, in the Hérault department. Originally an ancient agricultural land, it was the seat of a commandery of the Hospitallers of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, then became a wine estate in the 19th century. The old building was taken over between 1820 and 1888, then completely remodelled in 1890 by Gabriel Mirepoix, the work being entrusted to the architect Louis Garros.
